2020 is a leap year!!! So, we are celebrating with the Leap Day 5K. Did you know that according to the Gregorian calendar, leap year doesn’t occur exactly every four years? That’s right!!! Gregory was even more precise and made leap year occur in years divisible by four, except for those divisible by 100 and not divisible by 400. Confusing enough for you? So that means that 97 out of every 400 years are leap years, including the century years 1600 and 2000 but NOT 1700, 1800 and 1900.
Bottom line? Leap day will not occur on a weekend in a long time! So, don't miss the chance to run a fun 5k on leap day!!!
LEAPING GOOD FUN!
Get your leap on - on and off the course. You'll have the option to LEAP hay bales halfway through the 5k as well as test your standing long leap and vertical leap before or after you run (or walk.) There will be PRIZES for the highest and longest leaper as judged by our Leap Captain in the expo!
Did you know that people born on leap day are known as “leaplings” or “leapers”? They usually don't wait four years to celebrate their birthdays, but choose to celebrate on February 28 or March 1 instead. Are you a leaper or do you know a leaper? Anyone who is officially a LEAPER will be given a free race entry (must show valid ID to prove Leaper status). How fun is that?! If your birthday is on Leap Day and you want to race for FREE, Email us at info@3wraces with a copy of your DL and we will send you a race voucher.
The 2020 Leap Day 5k features a LONG SLEEVED, HOODED Tee Shirt! Sizing is Gender Specific and youth sizes are also available, while inventory lasts! You'll want to gobble up this swag, as it won't come around again for a long time!!
Some sizes will sell out in the days leading up to the event. There is a 'no shirt' option for a reduced fee during registration. Check the registration tent after 10 AM on race day to see about exchanging a shirt size or purchasing any available shirts at that time.
We are very exited to partner with Food For Hope for the Leap Day 5k. Food for Hope delivers food to local children in Adams County. For this race you have two ways to help out. You can do an online DONATION or bring in-kind food donations for a chance to win a raffle prize! Either way you choose to help out your generous donations go directly to LOCAL Adams County children. Food for Hope programs include:
Weekend Food Bags
Every week, volunteers meet to put together a bag full of nutritious food for each child enrolled in our elementary school program. Bags include a vegetable (canned or fresh), a fruit (canned or fresh), whole grains, protein items, and 2 breakfasts/snacks. Volunteers deliver bags to participating schools on Thursday of each week, to be distributed before they leave for the weekend.
Students need snacks at school to maintain focus, keep their energy up, and find success in their classes. Many teachers have reported to us that they use personal finances to purchase extra snacks for their students who are not able to bring one from home. We created this program to provide school day snacks, and alleviate the financial burden from teachers who are providing this on their own.
Northglenn High Food Bank
This in-school food bank provides groceries for students in the school, as well as for any Adams 12 school district families who need extra nutritional support.
RACE DAY RAFFLE!!!!
Bring 5 in-kind donations for Food for Hope to APPU (Advanced Packet Pick Up) or on Race Day and you'll be entered into the Race Day Raffle. All winning raffle numbers are pulled DURING your run and will be posted at the registration tent before you return to the finish line, so drop off your items BEFORE you start running!
